Shack Lewis
Meet Jen
An Atlanta native, Shack Lewis, began his music career very early. His mother, an accomplished singer,
took Shack to sing in piano bars at six. When he was eight, Shack was a paid singer in a children's choir,
recording Sunday school records. At twelve, he performed as Patrick in the musical "Mame" at
the Alliance Theater, was written up in the AJC and was interviewed on the morning show "Today in
Georgia".
Shack started taking instrument training in grammar school and was playing all of the woodwinds, including
the double reeds, by the time he graduated from Milton High School. At Milton, he honed his instrumental
talents under the direction of then band director Leon Cole and his voice (All State Chorus) under the
direction of then high school choral director Brannon Roberts. Shack received the John Phillip Sousa
Award and Louie Armstrong Award and was voted most talented in his class.
Upon graduating from high school, Shack spent a very short time studying Saxophone performance at
Georgia State and then realized he just wanted to be on stage. He traveled and performed professionally
with numerous groups including "IBM", "Pat Hand", "The Method", "Bamboo
Sky", "Time
Squared", "Foolproof", "Seeds of Faith", "Lou's Blues Review", "Michael
Milsap and the Prisoners of Fame", "Butch & The Buckheads", "Flashback', and "The
Numerous Complaints".
Shack has worked in technical production for "The Atlanta Symphony", "The Atlanta Rhythm
Section", "The Thompson Twins", "Mother's Finest", "The Georgia Satellites", "Oregon", "The
Guy Lombardo Orchestra", and "George Duke/ Stanley Clark."
At some point, Shack became interested in the physics of music and decided to study engineering at
Georgia Tech. It was a hobby that went out of control, and like most things, Shack dived in (obsessive-compulsive)
and graduated from Georgia Tech in 1996 with highest honors with his EE degree. He helped put himself
through Tech with academic scholarships, tutoring and TA-ing calculus, and playing with "Lou's Blues
Revue" and "Flashback". While playing with "Flashback", Shack met Jennifer.
After graduating from Tech, Shack worked for Scientific Atlanta for about five years designing RF
circuits. Shack and Jennifer were married in 1999, and when their son Harrison was born in 2000, Shack "retired" from
the corporate life and joined Jennifer raising Harrison and working in Real Estate and music. They now
reside in Alpharetta and have two wonderful children, Harrison and Sarah. Shack enjoys his family, Real
Estate, investing, music, mathematics and physics, inventing, camping, gardening, cooking, and traveling
with Jen.
